running win2kpro with iis for my personal web site.  my good router with
hardware firewall is broke, so i went back to an older one that doesn't have
a firewall.  so i put on an old zonealarm (2.6 i think) and everything was
fine with iis.  but i was having trouble accessing the drive shares from the
lan so i upgraded zonealarm to v5.5.  now i can access the shares ok and
everything else is ok for a while, then iis stops working.  it seems to only
run for a couple hours then i have to stop and restart it.  zonelabs of
course says their product is only for clients not servers, even though this
is a workstation.  anyone have any other free firewalls that work well with
iis on w2kpro?  any known fixes for za 5.5??

Hi Dave
I'd seriously consider putting a hardware firewall between your pc and net.
It's not 100% solid but is a lot more solid than relying on zonealarm on your
PC.  The Netgear stuff is great.  I used one of the wireless G routers for a
year with no problems.  I've since upgraded my cable service to a business
class (more static IPs) and have gone with a Sonicwall hardware firewall.
Very happy with it also.

Good luck

yeah, i much prefer the hardware one, but the real problem is that this is
on an isdn line.  the last i checked there weren't that many of the newer
routers that supported isdn.  thats why i got the contivity 100 and will
probably be looking in to getting it fixed, or upgraded, or whatever it
needs to make it reliable again... unless of course the emergency router fix
my isp is doing over night tonight is part of the problem.  i'll have to
test it again tomorrow and see if their changes helped.
