I have followed all the directions I can find and have tried this numerous
times with different \ / and spaces etc etc.  Why won't it work?

“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSACCESS.EXE”
“\\Srv01\data\CustomerRelationsDatabase\CRD.mdb” /wrkgrp
“\\Srv01\data\CustomerRelationsDatabase\workgroup.mdw”

This file <as below> cannot be found. All I get, whichever way I do it, is
that the file cannot be found.

Divide and conquer.  If you remove the reference to one of the files (either the
MDW or the MDB) does it make a difference?

I did get the .mdw file to work on it's own, however, I can't get a shortcut
to .exe to work ( I know, strange?!) or the .mdb. I have checked the paths
heaps to ensure I have the right spellings, spaces, etc

When I type in the enter shortcut, it adds another "C:/" on the front of
what I've typed in.  When I try without the C:/, it tells me it can't find
'Program'. Frustrating me!!!

There are three files listed in that shortcut - does it tell you which one
it can't find?  Have you thoroughly check all paths and filename are
correct?

So you are getting the message:

"This file <as below> cannot be found"

?

You need to give the *exact* message - we can not guess it over the
airwaves!

Ok - I've run the wizard instead and it's created a perfectly good shortcut
for me.  Will I be able to split my database successfully now? I was going to
copy the database, delete all the objects except tables,  log in original as
Administrator (yes, the user I've created - not default Admin) and delete the
tables then link them.

Will that give me the security I need?

Yes that would be one way to do it.  Alternatively you could create a new
blank db file whilst joined to your new workgroup and import objects into
it.

What security do you need?

What wecurity? Ummmm, I don't know...just some of it!

I think that will be ok.  i don't need it to be like fort knox, just secure
enough for people to not get into it any sneaky ways!

Thanks heaps!

Disable the bypass key, provide custom menus and hide the database window -
I think that more or less covers it.

I have no idea.

Will I get a parking ticket tomorrow?

To answer that, you'd need to know my parking habits. Do I plan to park
somewhere unusual tomorrow? Is it a private carpark, or do I park in
the street? Are there any parking restrictions there? Am I even driving
tomorrow? Do I even own a car?

You don't know any of that - because I haven't told you.

Similary, we don't know anything about your security requirements -
because you haven't told us!

I'm really sorry and totally understand where you are coming from! I should
have posted that information....

Unfortunately, after an extremely harrowing two months of database
development, my brain is just about fried!

I've just split the database, security works on the front end, no one can
get into the back end...so I'm happy!!!

Thanks!
