I have an old access password protected database.
I know the password.
I'd like to upgrade it to Access 2007, but I'm told I have to "remove the
password"
How?

open access (not your file, the application itself)
now go to open, and point at the mdb file you want the password removed from
note theres a small arrow besides the "Open" button at the bottom of the open
dialog. click the arrow and select "Open Exclusive", instead of "Open"
fill the password in to get inside the mdb
now if your'e in access 2007, select "Unset database password" from the
"database tools" ribbon
if on older access version, then goto tools->security->set/unset database
password (youll need to enter the password one last time)
that's it, it's no longer password protected

Good luck
Erez

Thanks.
I took a slightly more circuitous route - hauling out an old version of
Access, doing more or less what you suggested, then re-opening it in Access
2007.
Your suggestion would have saved me a few steps for sure.

Cheers
