Cant add new users ! please assist!I have been working on my db as a member of Admins , I just realised that I cant add any other user at all - I get a message: You do not have the necessary permissions to use the 'C:\Documents and Settings\...\mydb.mdb' object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object (myself on my pc) establish the appropriate permissions for you. Do I need to create a new workgroup ? How do I go about it to avoid myself being locked out of my own db ? Sometime ago, I was trying to create a new workgroup and somehow locked out of all my access db. I used this C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\System.mdw to enable me access my dbs and since then I did not try to add users or mess around with workgroup security. Many thanks. Go into Workgroup Administrator and join the System.mdw workgroup. If you
need to join a secure workgroup, do so for a specific Access session by way of a shortcut: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSACCESS.EXE" "\\ShareName\FolderName\YourDB.mdb" "/wrkgrp \\ShareName\FolderName\Security.mdw" There are links to further information here: http://www.geocities.com/jacksonmacd/ I have found Jack MacDonald's paper to be thorough and clear, but the others are well worth reading. In particular, the Security FAQ contains a lot of information, although it has not been updated for some years, so there is still stuff in there about security with Access 2.0 and things like that. User-level security is a bewildering business at first (and
for a while after that).
