Hello,

I have been working on my db as a member of Admins , I just realised that I
cant add any other user at all -
I get a message:
You do not have the necessary permissions to use the 'C:\Documents and
Settings\...\mydb.mdb' object. Have your system administrator or the person
who created this object (myself on my pc) establish the appropriate
permissions for you.

Do I need to create a new workgroup ? How do I go about it to avoid myself
being locked out of my own db ?

Sometime ago, I was trying to create a new workgroup and somehow locked out
of all my access db. I used this C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application
Data\Microsoft\Access\System.mdw  to enable me access my dbs and since then I
did not try to add users or mess around with workgroup security.

Many thanks.

Go into Workgroup Administrator and join the System.mdw workgroup.  If you
need to join a secure workgroup, do so for a specific Access session by way
of a shortcut:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSACCESS.EXE"
"\\ShareName\FolderName\YourDB.mdb"
"/wrkgrp \\ShareName\FolderName\Security.mdw"

There are links to further information here:

I have found Jack MacDonald's paper to be thorough and clear, but the others
are well worth reading.  In particular, the Security FAQ contains a lot of
information, although it has not been updated for some years, so there is
still stuff in there about security with Access 2.0 and things like that.

Glad to help.  User-level security is a bewildering business at first (and
for a while after that).
