Password to Access back end fileHi,
Do somebody knows how to make password to a back end file which is located onthe server? I tryed to make doesn't work when then I m trying to login to front end database. Works only on the back end file. Best regards, Lilian Hi Lilian
You could try using a workgroup file on the server and using this file for both the front end and back end. I have never done this myself, but I cannot see why it would not work. If you password protect your back end and then re-link your front-ends to it you will be prompted to enter the backend password one time when you are re- linking. After that, if you open the front-end with the newly linked tables you will not be prompted for a password. The back end is still password protected. If you need to password protect the front end, you can do it with a different password--or the same one as the back end for that matter. I've used this scheme to keep users out of each others' front ends to cut down on corruption when I had to store them on a common shared drive. Access password security isn't very strong but it will keep the honest folks out. It won't save you from dedicated crooks. User-Level Security is better but it is a lot of trouble to implement and I don't think it even exists in Access 2007 Hope this is helpful. Not accdb files. That's a different db engine, ACE, not Jet. I stand corrected. I think I was supposed to know that but
I've got a fairly advanced case of sometimers disease. Mike Chris O'C wrote: Show quoteHide quote >Access 2007 supports user level security for all versions of mdb format files. >Not accdb files.
