There'd be no logic to protecting your BE if you could then just connect to
it from another file.  What you need to do is connect to it whilst joined to
your custom workgroup.

Not sure how to do this.  Right now i am setting up the server to connect on
windows logon with permissionn rights.  Is this the same as you are talking
about.  My users can only connect when they have logged into windows with the
right credentials from within our vpn

When you apply ULS you join a custom workgroup using a custom *.mdw file.
This is the process I'm referring to and is independent of the Windows login
process.

Keith,

I thought... unless he was using Access  2007 which is no longer available
in 2007.  Only using Access 2003 or lower with 2007 can you have the benefit
of a workgroup file.  Or am I wrong?

If you mean that using an MDB you can use ULS, yes, that's correct.
But MDB is a native A2K7 format, not an A2K3 format. A2K7 can make
an MDB without any difficulty. It is only when you make an ACCDB
that you cannot use ULS.

David,

You know I never noticed that MDB is the native A2K7 format.  I guess I need
to play more.  But, yes, I was wondering because of the way Keith said it
and I thought I got that wrong.  Thanks for clearing that up.

Not *THE* native format, but *A* native format, just as in A2K3, A2K
format is a native format for A2K3.

The point is that all Jet 4 MDBs can be run natively in A2K7 without
conversion. That means an A2K, A2K2 or A2K3 MDB, or an MDB created
in whichever format in A2K7.

Provided that you retain the mdb file format you can still use a workgroup.

I knew that but the way you said... that wasn't evident.  So I wanted to
make sure I wasn't mistaken OR that something hadn't changed since the last
time I peeked!
