I'm a security novice in Access.   I was experimenting with setting up Groups
and Users and from one PC at least I now cannot open ANY databases.   I get
asked for user name and password no matter which database I try to open.   I
can open these same databases from my alternate PC though, except for the one
I was actually trying to secure.   I have restored the usecured back up I
created, but again I can't get into any databases at all from the PC I was
working on.   I have  the One step Security Wizardc Report printed and saved.
I did not set up a password for myself.  I wasn't even required too.

I at least can function using my alternate PC, but I would appreciate some
assistance in rectifying this.  Any suggestion will be welcomed.

Thanks,

Paul Hammond

This is a common occurrence.  You have either modified the default
"system.mdw" workgroup file or you have joined, by default, the custom
workgroup file you created in securing your app.

If the former, then re-name "system.mdw" and Access (2k on) will create a
new "clean" one on startup.  If the latter, then re-join "system.mdw" using
the workgroup admin tool.

Yes it did help and I thank you.

Now I will try again and see if I can avoid repeating this mistake.  It
seems a high price to pay for something so easy to do.  Any tips on how to
avoid?

No problem, glad to help.

IMO the most valuable piece of advice you'll receive on here is to make
backups of your files before you make any changes to your security, it's so
very easy to mess up, even when you're experienced!

Keith.
