Creating a workgroup

Setting up users.

I am very scared!!! I have created a simple database in Access 2003 and want
to implement some security. I want to set up a few users who have limited
rights e.g. to enter new records, whilst I, as the Administrator, will have
the right to modify the database as I see fit. I want my users to not see the
toolbars at the top of Access as well.

I am making the database on one machine but need to transfer it (with the
security I set up) to a completely different machine. Do I need to copy
anything else apart from the mdb file to the new machine, or make any changes
to the settings in security, for it to be transfered painlessly?

All help, reassurance, pointers to idiot guides welcome!

The last time I tried to use the security wizard, things went very badly
wrong and I had trouble using Access after that!

Your first port of call should be the security FAQ (link on my web site)
but, in a nutshell, you would need your mdb plus the custom workgroup file
(mdw) available to the host PC. You would launch the app using a shortcut
which utilises the "wrkgrp" command line switch to join your workgroup on a
session-by-session basis.

That said you should really read the FAQ over until you fully understand it.
It's "all killer, no filler" as they say so don't be tempted to skip any
part. Here's the most valuable piece of advice you'll receive on here:
WORK ON COPIES OF YOUR FILES/BACK UP YOUR FILES BEFORE YOU START! It's so
easy to lock yourself out of your own hard work. Oh, and don't use the
wizard - it does stuff and doesn't tell you.
